Kids, Crunch and Christ….what does that even mean???
Let me tell you a little more about each of these things and how they apply to this blog.
I am now the mom of four children but my life has revolved around children for as long as I can remember. I started babysitting when I was around 10 years old. In college I worked in a daycare and got a job with the army childcare system once we moved to our first duty station. During my time working in the Army child development center I completed the process of earning a child development associate. I took many college and continuing education classes in childcare, childcare management, education, and human development. I did not have a minor in college so all of my electives were classes having to do with children. I went on to work for the child care licensing in the state of Texas where I inspected daycare centers, in home daycares, preschools and private schools. During this time I also taught workshops on daycare management, incorporating literacy in early childhood and training daycare employees.
I left the world of childcare when my oldest child was two in order to stay home with her. I soon entered the world of homeschooling. I have looked at and tried many different types of curriculum, studied various theories on education and mentored other homeschooling moms. I love to help others get started on this journey. I have recently become involved in many areas of children’s ministry and I teach several classes at our local homeschool coops. As you can see my life is, and almost always has been, full of kids!
My main focus here is motherhood, so obviously we discuss kids, raising kids, teaching kids, entertaining kids and anything else related to kids!
I consider myself “crunchy,” which is similar to the term “granola.” I don’t, however, identify with every connotation of the word. For example, I am not vegetarian and I don’t wear patchouli! I just try to live my life in as natural a way as possible. You can read more about my definition of crunchy and my journey to crunch.
I’ve been on this journey of natural living for about 6 years now and am happy to share what I’ve learned, what I’ve tried, what worked and what didn’t. I share my experience to help you explore and make the choices that are right for your family but I wont tell you what to do-that is a decision only you can make.
Most importantly, I am a follower of Jesus. I believe he lived, died and rose again. I believe that I am a mess of a sinner and the reason I have hope and joy is because of what He did for me on the cross. My worldview is shaped by this belief and will be reflected here. My decisions and daily life are all impacted by this belief which is inseparable from every other aspect of my life.
We explore faith here. I discuss the Bible, prayer, faith and service. This is an integral part of living a joyful and fulfilled life.
