Review – New Features! and a SPECIAL

I shared last January a bit about all of the amazing classes and content included in a Yearly Membership. Throughout 2017 SchoolhouseTeachers added TONS of new classes and they are currently running an AMAZING sale so I thought it was time for an update.

High-quality, Self-paced, Online Homeschool Resources {}

I have been a member and a teacher (Kindergarten Social Studies) of for two years but have really only dabbled with the classes for my kids. You can see some of what we have tried here. About a month ago my husband and I made a decision to significantly change up how we are doing school. Part of that decision means we will be utilizing SchoolhouseTeachers as our main source of curriculum. With over 360 courses including almost any high school course you need, there really isn’t a need for any additional curriculum. I’m a bit of a curriculum junky so I will probably purchase additional resources but will draw from SchoolhouseTeachers as our main source and will ALWAYS check what they offer first. is a membership website; the incredibly affordable Yearly Membership gives you access to everything they offer for your entire family. No need to buy a membership for each person! This is awesome for those of us with large families but still affordable for smaller families as well! Every class is self-paced and most do not require the purchase of any additional material!

In addition to specific classes, they have parent and student planners, a schedule builder, record keeping service, a parent ebook library, SchoolhouseEXPO videos, a monthly menu and more! Here are more details about some of the awesome features on the website:

World Book

SchoolhouseTeachers now offers membership to several World Book libraries at no extra cost to its members! This is an amazing resource and amazing value. You will find articles, videos, games, research tools, lesson plans and more for every age group!

Video Library membership also includes a membership to RightNow Media! This video library is full of educational, entertaining, and spiritually uplifting videos from a variety of sources. Some of these videos are used as course components but can also be watched just for fun.

Molly Green

Content from Molly Green has been rolled into In this section, you will find all of the digital issues of the magazine, ebooks, guides and more! Molly Green is a resource for everything HOME: HOMEkeeping, HOMEschooling, HOMEindustry, and HOMEsteading and now this is all included in your SchoolhouseTeachers membership!

Focused Learning Center

In this area of the website, you will find collections to help you with specific subjects or areas of concern. Maybe you have a child who needs additional help with math or maybe you have a child preparing for college and would like some guidance on how to go about that. You will find it in the Focused Learning Centers. You will also find the Preschool Playground, resources for homeschooling special needs, information on Charlotte Mason Homeschooling and a Hands-On Learning Center.

My oldest is enjoying the Career Center for finding classes that fit her future goals. She hopes to be a Veterinarian but is also interested in Photography, Graphic Design, and Film Making, all of which are included in the Career Center.

This is really just the tip of the iceberg! A Yearly Membership gives you more than I could possibly list in one blog post for an amazingly reasonable price. I didn’t even touch on the over 360 classes that span Pre-K through High School. Classes include outlines, lesson plans, videos, printables, and certificates of completion. You can bookmark classes you are interested in and even make bookmark lists for each child to easily access the courses they are working on.

Tip: It can be a little overwhelming when you first start looking for classes on SchoolhouseTeachers. I printed out the Course Checklist under Planning and highlighted the classes I wanted my kids to take. This might make the planning a little less overwhelming for you. The printable list is organized by subject but you can also search classes by grade on the website.

Right now, through January 31st new members can get an amazing deal! This is the lowest price of the year so sign up now!

Improve Memory, Speech, and Attention with Forbrain {Review}

I was not planning to do any reviews this week since it is an extremely busy week for me but I could not pass up the opportunity to review Forbrain from Sound For Life LTD. At first, I thought I would pass on it even though it sounded like a neat device, but after reading through the website I realized this product could help every single member of my family in some way. So, I decided I could manage one review this week in exchange for these benefits!

Forbrain Sound for Life LTD

I was impressed with this product from the moment I opened the box! It is packaged in a nice protective case where it is surrounded by cushioning to keep it safe. The case has a specific spot for the charging cord and information pamphlet/instructions as well. It also includes three extra microphone covers – as a mom of several small children I appreciate the thoughtfulness of including these! The case zips shut to keep everything contained. A sheet with suggested use instructions for various ages and goals is included, you can also find that information on the Forbrain website.

So far I have used this device with three of my children (the other two children are too young). I intend to also use it for both myself and my husband eventually. None of my children have diagnosed attention, learning, or behavior issues except for my 6-year-old’s speech delay, but some show minor characteristics of these challenges.

My 6-year-old was a late talker and still has a very slight delay. He also tends to mumble and run his words together and isn’t always aware of his volume. He also has sensory issues which are mentioned a bit on the Forbrain website.

My 8-year-old struggles with attention and focus. She is flighty and we suspect she has a slight language processing problem although that has never been diagnosed.

My 12-year-old doesn’t have any obvious struggles with attention or learning although she has been “forgetting” a lot lately. For her, we used this mostly as a memorization tool and to hopefully improve memory in general.

Our homeschool curriculum consists of a large amount of memory work so that made incorporating Forbrain into our daily routines easy. I just had each child use it while working on their memory work. We already spent about 15 minutes a day on individual memory work so it fits right in.

Forbrain Sound for Life LTD

We have been using Forbrain for about five weeks. The literature included and the website say to use it for a minimum of six weeks to see results. I am starting to notice benefits though. All of the kids seem to be memorizing their work faster and retaining it better. My 6-year-old was immediately able to hear his speech and correct it while wearing the device and now he notices and corrects himself while not wearing it. He is also speaking more clearly overall.

I haven’t noticed an improvement in my 8-year-old’s attention and focus yet but it seems reasonable to assume that longer use is needed to see those benefits. It does seem to help with memorizing her schoolwork and she seems to be gaining more of an awareness of her own voice and that of others.

I didn’t originally plan to use this with my 12-year-old but decided it wouldn’t hurt to try it, so she has only been using it for about 3 weeks. It does help with her memorization and I think it will prove to be a very useful tool for practicing speeches and presentations as she has opportunities for those.

As I said earlier I have not used it myself or had my husband try it yet but plan to do so. I love speaking in public (yes, I know that is unusual) and hope someday to be able to give talks encouraging moms. I think using Forbrain to prepare and practice those talks will help take them to a new level as I become more aware of the inflections in my own voice and can train them to match what I am trying to convey. I also plan to have my husband try it for overall memory and hearing as his time in the service has made its mark on those areas.

Animated Tracts:

This set comes with three animated tracts; “John 3:16,” “The True Story of Christmas,” and “Where’s Everybody Going?” Each booklet comes with a black-striped plastic sheet. You slowly slide the sheet across each page of the booklet and the illustration appears to move. These were probably my kid’s favorite items in the pack. They just loved the moving graphics. Each booklet is also available in packs of 10.

The FlipAbouts are small cards folded cards that when turned and folded a specific way reveal different graphics. The Gospel Buttons FlipAbout reveals images representing parts of the salvation message. The John 3:16 FlipAbout has a short section of the verse on each image. Each FlipAbout is also available in packs of 20.

Pop-up Tracts:

These are fun tracts set up like traditional pop-up books which make them appealing to young kids. I really like “The Lost Easter Egg” tract and the way it ties God’s love to a situation most kids can identify with. “The Most Amazing House” is a basic explanation of the plan of salvation, while it isn’t my preferred way of presenting salvation, it may work well for some. These Pop-up Tracts are each available in packs of 10.

Wordless Gospel Tools:

These are variations on a classic method of sharing the Gospel in which colors are used to represent specific parts of the message. Included in this pack is a kit to make your own Gospel bracelet, a silicone Gospel bracelet, and a Wordless Gospel Book. Both bracelets come packaged with a sheet that explains the colors and shares the plan of salvation and a simple salvation prayer. Each of these items is also available in packs of 20. The silicone bracelet in the Sampler Pack is size medium but is available in small and large when ordered in sets of 20.

All items except the FlipAbouts and Wordless book have the plan of salvation and a simple salvation prayer somewhere on or with the item.

Packaging and Instructions

The entire Gospel Tracts and Evangelism Tools Sampler Pack came packaged in a sturdy plastic zipper pouch. Detailed instructions for each product are not included but basic instructions on how to use each item were included as well as three sample detailed instruction sheets. Full instructions and presentation suggestions for each product are available on the website under each product’s information page. Individual detailed instructions are included with each product when ordered in sets of individual products (packs of either 10 or 20). The instruction sheets include how to use the tool, what to say, questions to ask, and supporting verses to use when presenting it to children. These instructions make it easy to put this to use quickly and with minimal preparation.

Gospel Tracts and Evangelism Tools Sampler Pack child evangelism tools from Let The Little Children Come

This Sampler Pack could be used in many ways. Use the sampler pack to pick out specific products to use in your ministry or event. Any of these items would be great as a lesson or incentive item in Sunday School, AWANA, or another group of children. If you have a very small group you could order a Sampler Pack for each student and present the items one at a time. This could also work for family devotionals. Simply order one pack per child and use the items one at a time as the basis for your lesson (or expand the lessons so you use one item per week). You can look up the specific instruction on the Let The Little Children Come website for the items you didn’t receive instruction sheets with. My children were extremely interested in all of the items in the pack; I won’t have any trouble holding their attention for a lesson with these tools. If doing this with a small group and ordering each child a kit you may want to give them the plastic pouch at the beginning to store the items in as they receive each one.

Teach Your Kids To Pray with Weave Your Word in Me {Review}

I am always interested in ways to help my children better know and understand our faith and apply it to their lives. So, I was happy to have the opportunity to review Weave Your Word in Me — Part 1 from Kid Niche Christian Books. It looked like a great way to teach children how and why to pray.

Weave Your Word in Me is intended for children in grades 4-6. It is a study of The Lord’s Prayer using a poem that translates and expands the prayer in a way that makes it easy for kids to understand and apply it to their own life. Students work on memorizing one verse of the poem at a time while studying scripture about topics relating to that verse.

The study comes printed in full color on heavy paper that is hole punched and ready to be put into a 3-ring-binder. You will need to provide the binder; a 1 or 1 1/2 inch binder is adequate. A cover sheet to slide into the front of the binder is also included.

I received Part 1 which includes 36 lessons of the complete 80 lesson study. You can purchase the two parts separately or you can save $10 by purchasing them as a set and getting the full 80 lesson study at one time. If you want to keep it all in one binder you will want to get the 1 1/2 inch binder.

The Lord's Prayer homeschool curriculum for tweens

Each lesson is designed to be done in one sitting and is only one or two pages long. The lessons consist of fill in the blank and short answer questions. Some answers come directly from scripture while others require application and reasoning. There is also a prayer included at the end of each lesson that guides the student to apply what he/she is learning in her conversation with God.  The author also provides a website with several expansion options for each lesson. There are videos, music selections, art projects and more that can be incorporated into the lesson to expand on it. You can tailor this study to your needs from a quick 20-minute study to a longer more involved study with the supplemental material. You can work on it one day a week or every day, it is really up to you!

I received this to try with one of my daughters. I have one in 3rd grade and one in 7th grade so they actually straddle the ideal age designated for this study. After looking it over I decided to have my 3rd grader do it. It was a tad on the difficult side for her but not too difficult. Due to her age, it required a lot of input and help from me and some of the questions that required longer answers we just discussed instead of wrote. If you will be right with your child through the whole study, guiding them along, you could probably use it with a kid as young as 2nd grade or even as a discussion guide only with younger kids (scaling it to their level). I think a child over 12 is going to find it a bit on the young side but the material is solid and presented well so even older children will learn and gain something from it.

The Lord's Prayer homeschool curriculum for tweens

My daughter did enjoy the study and seemed to understand the concepts presented with a bit of help from me. She enjoys memorization and is good at it so she likes the poem that goes along with it. The struggle we had is that we are involved in AWANA during the school year. Trying to do both at the same time was a bit burdensome for both of us. I think this would be an excellent study to do over the summer when we are not in AWANA. I always struggle to find something to do during the summer to keep my kids growing in their faith and this will be a great option. I will set the rest of this study aside until next summer and then complete it as a family study. I will purchase another workbook for my older daughter and then do the lessons together with all of my children, allowing the younger kids to listen and participate in the discussions.

This curriculum can also be used with groups and would make an excellent Sunday School or backyard Bible club study.
