I am reading and journaling chronologically through the Bible in 2017. Each Sunday I will post one of my journaling pages and thoughts from that week’s reading. I will also have a linky for anyone who would like to participate to share how their Bible reading and journaling is going!
I am fully into Joshua now. Moses has died, the Israelites have crossed the Jordan and are conquering the inhabitants of the promised land. With a bit of a set back due to disobedience. Man God takes disobedience seriously! A whole family and all of their livestock stoned because of the head of that household’s actions…..I have to admit this is one of those things I struggle to understand and just have to take on faith that God punished them severely out of necessity. I love that the time in the desert ends the same way it begins-with the parting of water. Those who were not born or were too young to remember get to see God’s power demonstrated again in the same amazing way (of course His power was demonstrated at all times in the desert but the Israelites seemed to have needed lots of reminders).
What was especially fun about this week’s reading is that I just finished a novel based on this time period but from the perspective of the Gibeonites (the group who tricked the Israelites into a treaty). While the book was fictional it was a fascinating possible perspective. I will be reviewing it here in a couple weeks!
I’ve been waiting for this section because I knew I wanted to draw the stones piled where the Israelites crossed the Jordan on dry ground. There were two stacks of stones, one they removed from the river bed and stacked in their camp and one they piled up where they crossed. I wrote the names of the 12 tribes on the stones, this wasn’t done but the stones represented the tribes.
You may not be able to see it well in the full pic so I took a close up (my handwriting isn’t great).
