Drive Thru History® – “The Gospels” Curriculum Review

My daughter loves the Drive Thru History® Ancient History series so she was very excited to watch Drive Thru History® – “The Gospels”.

Drive Thru History Homeschool or Small Group Curriculum The Gospels

We have always streamed Drive Thru History® before so while I was sure we would enjoy the episodes themselves, I was pleasantly surprised by the overall high quality and beauty of this product. The lovely experience began as soon as I opened the box. The set is packaged in a beautiful book. The three DVDs containing 6 episodes each are found in the cover while the study guide is on the pages in the middle. The study guide is on heavy, high-quality pages full of beautiful pictures.

In true Drive Thru History® style, the episodes on these DVDs are fast paced and chock full of information with fun and funny bits sprinkled in. Dave Stotts is quite the engaging host. He brings the Bible to life and keeps viewers on their toes. Each episode contains a quick recap of the information presented in the episodes before, this makes a great review and reinforces the information.

This series covers the entirety of the Gospels from Jesus’ conception to resurrection, and the last episode discusses who Jesus is, who he says he is, and how he fulfills the prophecies. With scripture as the basis, and using additional historical records, Dave Stotts examines the culture and context of the time period. All of this happens as he visits the sites where the events in the Gospels took place.

The study guide includes a summary, corresponding scripture references, discussion questions, and extra information for each episode. Almost every page in the study guide also holds beautiful photographs or artwork related to the information. Is is an absolutely lovely book even just to look through.

You can use this set in several ways. You can just watch the videos like a documentary or you can use it as a weekly study. It is great for 5th grade all the way up to adults so it can be used with a wide variety of audiences. It would make a wonderful study for Sunday school classes (kids or adults), youth group, or adult small group. You could do the study with your family as a family devotional or as a homeschool lesson, or you could invite other homeschoolers to go through the study with you as a homeschool coop.

My 11-year-old daughter absolutely loved Drive Thru History® – “The Gospels”! I figured she would, of course, since she loves the Drive Thru History® Ancient History series. They were interesting enough for me but simple enough for her and the amusing interludes kept her engaged. There is so much information presented in each episode that even most adults will learn something new. My younger children watched with us some but much of the information was over their heads. They did find Dave funny and enjoyed his antics.

Now that I have seen what the physical product from Drive Thru History® looks like, I am looking forward to purchasing more of their products for our homeschool!
