Art with Creating A Masterpiece {Review}

Creating a Masterpiece

My kids have had so much fun with their art lessons from Creating a Masterpiece! The Monthly Plan provides you with professional art instruction on several ability levels and in a variety of medium that everyone in your family can use and enjoy! Access to all of the video lessons is available for a very reasonable price. There is no limit to how many family members may use the lessons or how many times they can be accessed, and since you get access to all of the lessons in every level you can have children (or adults) working on any number of different projects at the same time.

Check out this video where my kids share their thoughts:

When we started this program my children chose several beginner level projects they wanted to try and we purchased the supplies for each using the supply list provided in the class. Sharon has set up a list in the Dick Blick online store for each project to allow for quick and easy ordering. I tried to find our supplies locally and had trouble finding certain items. Using the link in the class is much easier and the prices are affordable. In the future, I will get all of my supplies for these lessons through the link to Dick Blick in the lesson.

My kids completed the Lessons in Water Color: Floral Medley and the Lessons in Ink: Peacock Feathers projects from the beginner level. The Floral Medley worked well for my three oldest children (5, 7, and 11-years-old). The Peacock Feathers was a little more difficult and my 5-year-old was a little frustrated so he didn’t complete that one. There are many projects appropriate for a 4 or 5-year-old and there is no upper age limit to these lessons. I am hoping to do many of them myself starting with the beginner level.

These classes consist of video lessons, generally in several parts. Some can be completed all at once while others require waiting for something to dry before moving on to the next step. Most will take a few hours, so you may choose to do them in multiple sessions. Everything is online so you can access the lessons from any computer with high-speed internet (fast enough to run a video).

The Monthly Plan subscription gives you access to every lesson Creating a Masterpiece has available. There are five difficulty levels as well as an Art in History section. You get lessons in acrylic, batik, block printing, carving, conte crayon, copper tooling, glass mosaic, gouache, ink, mixed media, oil paint, oil pastel, pencil, charcoal, sculpture, soft pastel, watercolor, and wood burning.

I am not proficient in art myself but am very interested in learning, so I’m thrilled to find such excellent art instruction in a very accessible format. The best part is you can rewind and replay the videos as many times as necessary to figure out the technique or pause to give yourself time to complete a specific part. I plan to continue my subscription for quite a while as we all work through the lessons we are interested in. Sharon is always adding new lessons as well!

This art program has something for everyone! For the adults in your family think of it as a “wine and canvas” type party straight from your computer anytime you want!!

  1. Thanks for sharing – and what beautiful pictures! You must be one proud mummy. I don’t homeschool my children, but my first born starts full time in September and I’m not sure if I should go down the homeschooling route yet or not – I’m praying about it.

    • Thanks for visiting! The great thing about this program is anyone who wants to learn art could use it! Keep praying and you will find the right schooling choice for your family!

  2. Your children are darling holding their masterpieces. I think that your watercolor paintings turned out so lovely…very fresh. Thank you for your nice review. I hope that you will send me pictures of their projects as they progress through Creating a Masterpiece.
