2017 Word Of The Year-Joy

I’ve been pondering and praying about my word of the year for a couple weeks and the one word that keeps coming to me is JOY.

Last year was a rough year and I admit I let some difficult circumstances get to me and ended up having a generally bad attitude most of the year. I was grumpy with my husband, children, friends, and others. This attitude affected everything I did as well as those around me.

This year it is time to reclaim JOY!

My mom made the folded book with the word Joy for me. She gave it to me for other reasons but it fits!

For me this means:

  • Choosing to be joyful; choosing to see the positive.

  • Finding joy in day to day life.

  • Cultivating joy in my home and inspiring joy in my children.

  • Being joyful and uplifting with my friends.

  • Bringing joy to others.

I know it will not always be easy to choose a joyful attitude, and I’m sure I will fail often but I will keep my eyes on the goal of joyfulness!

Just a few verses to help me keep focus (all NIV, emphasis mine):

John 16:20  Very truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.

Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit,

Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness….

  1. Joy is a wonderful word!!! I love the many joyful scriptures about joy..it’s part of the gifts we are given in following Christ..and choosing joy is such a gift we give to ourselves! Blessings!

  2. This is such a timely word for myself as well. I’ve been focusing a lot on cultivating joy in my home and in my family as well. It’s easy to forget that we can set the tone in the home, isn’t it? Especially in difficult circumstances.

Praying for you and your year of Joy!

    • It is definitely easy to forget, or even just to not feel like putting in the effort when things are tough. I hope you are seeing the fruit of your effort and thanks for the encouragement!

  3. LOVE lOVE LOVE!!!

I love spreading joy daily. I remind people not to focus on they how, what or how much, just the fact that you are doing something for someone.

    joy is contagious!
